BLOOD DONOR FOR HUMANITY

Who says that IFSA’s activity is only talking about forest, nature, research, studying english, and delegation?? You are wrong, guys! IFSA also has a social project every year. For example in previous year, IFSA’s social project was IFSA Charity, and in this year, IFSA’s social project is Blood Donor for Humanity (BLOOM).

As we know, blood is the most important thing in our body. Blood is the primary means of transport in the body that is responsible for transporting important nutrients and materials to and from the cells and molecules that make up our body, blood performs the important task of protecting the body from the threat of infections and disease causing bacteria, blood is also responsible for controlling the concentration of hydrogen ions in the body, which are also known as pH balance. Can you imagine live without blood? Some people need more blood for some reason and condition.

Blood Donor for Humanity (BLOOM) is the name of this project. The tagline of this project is “Everybody can be Hero” because we think that just by simple thing (donating blood), every people can save other people, they are heroes.

This project is a partnership between IFSA LC UGM, PASKHAS TNI AU, Unit Pengelola Transfusi Darah (UPTD) (Blood Transfusion Management Unit)from Rumah Sakit Dr. Sardjito, and Blood for Others (BFO) community. This project was held on Saturday, May 9 2015 in Markas Denhanud 474 PASKHAS TNI AU, Brebah, Sleman.

As we know, that PASKHAS has a fit condition and is qualified to do blood donor, they are also close to nature and have high discipline. That is why we choose PASKHAS in partnership in this project. Not only blood donor, in this project, IFSA LC UGMalso gave 100 plant seeds for PASKHAS, there are fruit plant seeds and hardwood plant seeds. Those seeds were coming from BPDAS Kota Yogyakarta (Watershed Management Office of Yogyakarta City).

In that sunny morning, for about 80 personnels from PASKHAS and 20 members of IFSA LC UGM opened this project by a short ceremony at 7.00 AM. In the ceremony, Commander of PASKHAS and President of IFSA LC UGM gave an greeting speech. After that, the representative from IFSA LC UGM gave a plant seed to the Commander as a symbolization of seed giving from IFSA LC UGM to PASKHAS.

At 8.30 AM, the blood donor was begun. About 40 personnels from PASKHAS and 20 members of IFSA LC UGM joined to donate their blood. While waiting, the army was entertained by mini accoustic from IFSA LC UGM and also BFO community told us about how important blood donor is.

Finally, the event was finished at 10.30 AM. UPTD get 40 blood bags from the donors. Together, the participants had a photo session in front of PASKHAS Office.

By donating blood, we can save other people’s life. Not only saving people’s life, but also it has many benefit for us. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s donate our blood, cause “Everybody can be Hero”. Share blood, give life. Sharing means caring. We hope this social project may be beneficial to every people who are in needs.
