PRESS RELEASE IFSA LC UGM 2023 ENGLISH CLUB #1 “Vocabulary in Your Brain Pocket”

On March 30th, 2023, the Language Commission held the first English Club of this presidency. The purpose of this event was to enrich our vocabularies and improve our speaking skills in a fun way. This event was also intended to build stronger friendships among both IFSA LC UGM members and KM FKT students.

The theme of this English Club was “Vocabulary in Your Brain Pocket”. We took this theme because our focus of the event was on enriching our vocabularies as the early step to improving our English skills. There were three sessions in this English Club, two main sessions and one ice-breaking session. The first session was called “Guess It, Mark It”. In this session, the participants wrote down a noun on a piece of paper and submitted it to the MCs. Then, one by one, the participants took a paper and described the word without saying it. Other participants guessed the word and those who answered correctly received a point. Meanwhile, in the second main session which was called “Make It a Chain”, the first participant said a word (noun) and the next participant had to say another word starting with the previous word’s last letter. This session had two rounds, with the second round intended to be verbs. The ice-breaking session between the two main sessions involved a drawing challenge. Despite some problems and issues such as change of place, all of the sessions ran smoothly and everyone was happy during the event.
